So if you follow me anywhere you’ll know I’m a beach bum. I go pretty much any time that I can! It’s actually extremely rare that I miss a sunrise over that gorgeous Atlantic on the weekends. Last Saturday, April 1st, was no exception ….
This is the time of the year again (since the cold ass mornings are leaving us behind – yes!) where I spend a few hours at the beach in the mornings. When it’s colder out I just go for sunrise and then head out but now that it’s in the 80’s in the mornings I enjoy a few hours of R&R!
Typically I get there pretty early. They’ve dug up the parking in the little area I park in and Pete’s sister was meeting us there so I had to park elsewhere and guide her in. She was running about 10 minutes late or else I’d might have been on the beach when whatever happened happened.
I know we got ON the beach about 6:50am. We sit in the same spot every Saturday and Sunday and chit chat pre sunrise (that’s when you get the best colors y’all) and just enjoy everything around us. The water was so calm and it was low tide. Low tide was at 7:23 am that morning so it was nearly as low as it was going to be. That’s kind of important in all of this.
So as we’re sitting there talking I notice one of the normal walkers was walking back up the beach with a BSO officer. Of course, we looked down the beach to see and there were a ton of officers and what even looked like FBI. It was still dawn out so kind of hazy. We walked down that way passing by another guy walking telling a lady that a body had possibly washed up. Nothing had been roped off yet, like this body was basically JUST DISCOVERED! We hung out there for a few minutes while they started roping it all off kind of in bewilderment if I’m being 100% honest. Like … keep in mind, this is April 1st. Surely this isn’t some crazy ass hoax … right!?!?! Are we insensitive to even think that?
We walk down the beach where we see the woman who’d walked down there w/the officer and they’re standing at one of the rocks. There’s some stuff laying around it which seemed to be this guys belongings. In the belongings there was a messenger bag of sorts, a journal, a huge ass wine bottle, a beats pill, a couple cigarettes laying on the ground (one partially smoked) beside a lighter. An open bottle of orange gatorade and a gun case with open ammunition. Still … is this an elaborate hoax!? Not with all of the cops swarming … right?
I can tell you that the guy wasn’t wet, that he was fully clothed (including socks/shoes) and was laying in a position to where you could tell he wasn’t just sleeping. What does that mean? Well, first it means that whatever happened had to be between high and low tide obviously. High tide was 1:06 am and if you look in the pictures you can see how high the tide went because of the dried out seaweed. So above the rocks. If you look to see where he is laying it’s right below the rocks. We were sitting right in the same area parallel to this body about 50 feet north of it. So I know exactly where the water was at least from the times I was there. My guess is that the tide was AT those rocks not more than an hour before we arrived. I’m there a lot, I snorkel a lot (which, you do with the tides basically) so I’m pretty accurate on where the tides are and when. Just something you pay attention to when you’re in the water/at the beach a lot I guess.
We went back and forth with guessing what happened. First (before we really saw him) we assumed by looking at the group of items on the ground that he’d gotten super drunk and either went for a swim or fell asleep and the tide took him. But thinking more and more about it, the placement of him, his belongings not being moved at all killed that theory. Like I said, nothing was wet.
Listening to the word on the beach was that he’d committed suicide by gun. We were there for about 4 1/2 hours. When we left the body was still on the beach, wrapped up. People doing their normal things, just walking around the roped off crime scenes. They picked up all of the items and put them in bags for evidence. We just figured we’d see it on the news when we got home. Actually, speaking of the news, WSVN was tweeting me, asking for location and told me they were looking into it after I gave them pictures and location. I never saw them show up .. in fact, they didn’t. Actually, NO ONE has reported on it. And there is no crime/suicide/incident listed anywhere on that day, on that beach in Broward county. Why? How? We saw this! We were there witnessing it all! We didn’t see WHAT happened to him but this guy is dead. He laid there still as fuck for 4 1/2 hours. Was it a dummy? Why would this even be a thought!?! Just because it’s April 1st? Or MAYBE because several of us are scouring the internet looking for what happened … and nothing. We’ve tweeted out to WSVN, the Sun Sentinel and even Broward Sherrifs Office looking for answers as to what happened. WHERE IS THIS GUN!? WAS IT RETRIEVED!?
I actually vlogged this experience and it’s up on my Youtube channel. Upon finding me vlog the lady who actually found the body commented! She let me know that her husband was the one who called 911 and waited outside of the bath house for BSO. She also did confirm there was a gun and a cellphone beside the body. She is also confused on why we can’t find any news on it, any info at all. Like I gave WSVN HOURS to get to the scene and they never did. Why!? She called BSO this week and asked about the situation and they could ‘confirm there was an incident’ but that’s it. What the fuck does that even mean? WE WERE THERE, WE KNOW THERE WAS AN INCIDENT. We want to know why there was a dead fuckin’ body on our beach and NO ONE knows even why!?!
So yea … if I would have been there at my regular time, in my regular spot would I have been involved and no one know about it as well? Was it even a suicide? How do we know there wasn’t a second person there and some fucked up shit happened? We don’t. Hell, people who LIVE RIGHT THERE don’t even know it happened. That’s scary friends. Very scary. My spot that I sit in was smack dab in the middle of where all of this occurred y’all. Twenty yards north of me were his belongings with a possible suicide note, gun case, ammo … fifty yards south of me a dead body … or an elaborate hoax!? If I was sitting there when he walked by would he maybe not have taken his own life … because someone else was on the beach? Was he in such a rage that he’d have taken mine and my loved ones because we were in the path!?
Feel free to check out the vlog as we were finding out information .. I’m still so confused and bewildered I’m trying to get some answers. If you or anyone knows anything about this please comment and if you don’t please share so maybe we can get some answers!
